Frequently Asked Questions

What are Ultra Low Linolenic soybeans and why are they different?
Asoyia 1% Ultra Low Linolenic Acid soybeans contain 1% linolenic acid. Commodity soybeans contain 7% to 8%. Linolenic acid is the most unstable component of soybeans, thus beans with a higher percentage of linolenic acid produce oil that goes rancid quickly, and creates undesirable characteristics when used in cooking. The oil from those beans often requires hydrogenation in order to increase the stability of the oil, and unhealthy trans-fatty acids are created through this process.
Because Asoyia Ultra Low Linolenic soybeans contain only 1% linolenic acid, oil produced from these soybeans requires no hydrogenation. Asoyia 1% Ultra Low Linolenic Soybean Oil is the most stable cooking oil available on the market today and is also trans-fat free.
If I have low linolenic soybeans, can I deliver them for Asoyia?
No. Only soybeans grown with Asoyia 1% Ultra Low Linolenic specialty seed are used in the Asoyia Grower Program.
Where can I get Asoyia Seed?
A producer can only get Asoyia brand seed from an authorized Asoyia distributor or seed dealer. Asoyia currently works with several retailers and distributors. To find one in your area or to get in contact with a representative, contact the Asoyia office today at 877-ASOYIA1 (276-9421) or 319.339.4645.
Are the Asoyia contracts acre or bushel contracts?
All Asoyia 1% Ultra Low Linolenic soybean contracts are acre contracts in which all production is purchased for delivery to Cargill.

Is there a minimum acreage requirement to participate in the program?
In past years, we have had participation with various acreage commitments. Some producers began the program with test plots and have continued to grow with increased acreages each year.
What is the Identity Preservation (IP) Program and why is it important?
The IP program is an important element of the Asoyia Grower Program, because it is used to ensure the quality of our products. The IP program begins once the acres are planted and continues through to the delivery of the soybeans. Using strict protocols and record keeping, the beans are monitored throughout the planting, harvesting, storage, and delivery processes to prevent contamination. All machinery, including combines, augers, wagons, and other equipment, must be free of all other crops. Test are conducted throughout to ensure the soybeans meet our quality specifications. Through the IP program, we can easily identify product that is out-of-spec before it is delivered for crush to the processing facilities.
Where can I deliver my Asoyia beans?
Once the producer has signed in to the Asoyia Grower Program, he or she will deliver to a specific Cargill location. For our 2007 program, delivery points include; Cedar Rapids and Des Moines, Iowa as well as Bloomington, Illinois. Non-GMO soybeans are delivered to either Cedar Rapids, Iowa or Bloomington, Illinois, and Roundup Ready® soybeans are delivered to either Cedar Rapids or Des Moines, Iowa.
How do I schedule my beans for delivery?
All soybeans are scheduled for delivery to various Cargill locations in Iowa and Illinois. The producer begins by contacting Cargill to schedule a month for delivery. Forward contracting is available. Once the delivery month and the bushel amount is specified, the producer has until the delivery date to sell the beans, unless other pricing alternatives are established, the soybeans will receive market price that day. To sell soybeans, the producer would contact a merchant at the Cargill facility in Des Moines, Iowa or Bloomington, Illinois.
How often are deliveries scheduled?
Generally, there are two deliveries scheduled each month. Our new crop deliveries begin in October and run through September of the following year. Depending on the delivery location and volume, Asoyia deliveries generally total 1-4 days each month.
What do I need to do to get ready for a delivery?
Once the beans are scheduled with Cargill for a specific delivery month, Asoyia will contact the producer during the designated period to schedule the bushel/load amounts. Delivery information such as date and delivery hours are provided to the producer as well as a delivery code number. The code is a four-digit number, which is provided to the producer and the producer only, unless otherwise specified by the producer. Each load delivered during the period is required to provide the code at the probe.
How soon do I receive payment for the beans I delivered?
The producer should receive payment within 3-5 business days of each delivery date for beans delivered. The payment will be issued by Cargill and will include the sale price of the beans, the grower premium, and, if applicable, a travel subsidy. Payment will be issued for each delivery period that your beans are delivered rather than at the end of the program year.
